Adding Art Borders to Your Photos–3 Ways!

It's a new year, and with that, Photoshopgirl.com is back with a new tutorial and a new resolution! Not the New Year's kind, but the larger tutorial size kind. Monitors keep getting bigger and my web stats says it's time to bump up the resolution for the vast majority of readers, so the new tuts will be somewhere in the neighborhood of 1200x750, up from 960x600. Hopefully that doesn't impede on too many of you still using 1024x768, but hey, a higher resolution is just a setting away!

So, remember when I shared 50 Free Photo Art Borders? Well, now I finally have the tutorial to go with them. I know, I know, it's about time. The great thing about this particular tutorial is that it's a 3-in-1. Score! Amirite?

In the tutorial we'll be using layer masks, the free transform tool, blend modes, and erasing and vignetting the non-destructive way. The border I used is from the 50 Free Photo Art Borders pack, but you can also find it here.

How to Add Bokeh Textures to Your Photos

I hope I inspired all of you with yesterday's post! Today I am going to show you how to add the bokeh textures to your photos. It's a very simple technique that uses the free transform tool, blend modes, and adjustment layers. Enjoy!

You can get the texture I use in this tutorial from regularjane's bokeh texture pack 001. I've also uploaded just the one I used (#15) here in case anyone has trouble downloading and extracting the pack.

Bleach Bypass Effect

It's been used in the films Saving Private Ryan, Minority Report, and others. Bleach Bypass is actually an effect you can achieve on film when you skip bleaching while processing color film, leaving the silver retained on the negative. Quick and Easy Sepia

Sepia is the dark brown pigment that comes from secretions of the ink sac of a Cuttlefish. That ink was then mixed in with other chemicals that resulted in the tones of the photograph to be in shades of brown instead of gray, back in the 1880s. They have since developed artificial toners and now with Photoshop you don't even need the chemicals. Or the Cuttlefish. Pretty neat.

Sometimes even when you have a zoom lens on your camera, you may not have the patience to nail it. I don't, so I just do it post-production. Either way it's great and an interesting effect to try on your photos!
